Grease was the word and every boy wanted a T-Birds leather jacket. This one was worn by John Travolta who played T-Birds leader Danny Zuko and also starred Olivia Newton-John as Sandy.
Due to a zipper breaking, Olivia Newton-John had to be sewn into the black trousers she wears in the last sequence at the carnival, this was the outfit also used for the film promotional posters.
The film’s soundtrack produced two Number 1 singles: the title song ‘Grease’ and ‘You’re the One That I Want’ which was sung by the films leading stars.
It only cost $6 million dollars to make and has now reached a staggering total of $341,100,000 dollars at the box office after the 20 th Anniversary re-release, making it Hollywood’s highest grossing musical.
Henry Winkler, who was playing Fonzie on the TV series ‘Happy Days’ was originally supposed to play Danny but he turned it down for fear of being typecast.
